Crop types are used in two ways:

- During ordering to specify the crop type that will be irrigated.
- For Demand Prediction to specify the crop types that are grown in an area so that the water demand for that area can be calculated using the crop factors.

Use NetworkConnect to create and configure crop types for use in ordering and demand prediction.

> ℹ️ If you have already configured crop types in DMS they will be available in NetworkConnect. Crop Coefficient files can only be added in NetworkConnect.

# Creating a crop type

**Step 1**

Select the Crop Types option from the main menu.

**Step 2**

In the Crop Types screen, click the Create button to create a new crop type or select an existing crop type and choose Modify to edit an existing crop type.

**Step 3**

In the **Add Crop Type** screen, enter the following details:

- *Crop Name* - the name of the crop
- *Crop Height* - select the crop height from the drop-down list. (Note that the crop height is not used for now but will be used in future for importing ET<sub>0</sub> data for Demand Prediction).
- *Refill Point* - specify an optional default refill point for this crop (this will be used as the default when creating a planting with this crop).
- *Crop K*<sub>*c*</sub>* file* (for Demand Prediction only) - If you are using Demand Prediction you can add crop coefficient data. Click the **Choose File** icon to select an import file for this crop. See below for the file format requirements.  
If you do not import a file, a default value of 1 will be applied.

**Step 4**

Click **Save** to save your crop details.

The import file should be a csv file. Click the green help button beside (or below) the file import option to view the file format requirements:

# Modifying or Deleting a Crop Type

> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ You can’t delete a crop type if there are any existing plantings for that crop type.

- To modify a crop type select **Modify** from the Crop Type menu
- To delete a crop type, select **Delete** from the Crop Type menu.
