> ℹ️ You must have the *Assign Work on Sites* scope to create meter reading assignments. By default, this is held by PLANNERS. See [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/NC/pages/2196832268](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/NC/pages/2196832268) for more details.

Use this tool to create collections of sites and assign the sites as a task for use in [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCN](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCN). The Assignment screen steps you through the process of creating and allocating an assignment.

# Assignment Workflow Overview

- In NetworkConnect A PLANNER creates a set of sites and assigns them to a user.
- The assignee logs in to [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCN](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCN) where they can view the sites assigned to them on a list or on the map.
- The assignee uses the **Start Cycle** tool in MeterConnect to reset any sites left over from previous assignments and mark them as incomplete.
- The assignee enters readings and either saves them offline or uploads them to NetworkConnect, or takes measurements and enters data.

# Create an assignment

**Step 1**

Choose a work type by selecting either *Meter Reading* or *Tag Data Entry* and click **Next**.

**Step 2**

Choose Sites by adjusting the filter settings for the following filter types:

- **Group/Area** - filter the site list by group or area.
- **Site Type** - filter the site list by network object type.
- **Property** - filter the site list by metering and usage related data.

When you have applied a filter you’ll be able to see these values:

- **Matching sites** - the sites that match the filters in this step
- **Total sites in assigment** - the total number of sites selected for this assignment in steps 2 and 3. Sites selected in these steps can overlap, the total sites in the assignment will be the total number of unique sites.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ These filters use the same settings as the standard site filters. See [Filtering the Site List and Map](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/NC/pages/2503442934) for more details of how these filters work.

**Step 3**

Optionally choose a different set of sites using different filter settings.

**Step 4**

Assign the work by:

- Selecting a user. You can choose any user regardless of their role.
- Providing a name for the assignment.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ The assignment name will default to <Assignee> <Date> but you can enter a custom name.

You can also choose from the following options:

- **Remove other sites assigned to this party** - this removes any previously assigned sites from the selected party.
- **Remove other assignees for these sites** - this removes any sites assigned to this party from the assignment lists of any other parties.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ These options will not take effect until the parties log back in to MeterConnect.

**Step 4**

Click **Save** to save the list and assign it to your selected party.
