# Viewing Irrigation Units

To see irrigation units defined for a water account, open the Water Account screen and either:

- Use the Water Account menu to open the Irrigation Units list

- Or go to the Account Details screen and click the **Irrigation Units** icon at the top right.

From the Irrigation Units list you can:

- Create a new Irrigation Unit by tapping the **Add** button at the bottom right.
- Use the unit menu to view the details of the irrigation unit and manage any plantings for the unit
- Use the unit menu to modify the unit area or to delete the unit.

# Creating a New Irrigation Unit

Create irrigation units by tapping the **Add** button on the Water Accounts screen for a site. This will start a stepper that guides you through the process of creating an irrigation unit.

**Step 1: Enter the unit details**

Enter a name for the irrigation unit.

**Step 2: Add Devices**

- Select the water source for the irrigation unit.
- (Optional) Pick a weather station from the drop-down list to provide weather data for this irrigation unit.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Weather stations will only appear on the list if access has been configured for you.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Access to weather stations is configured by creating a **Weather Station Group** that includes the weather station as a group member. Anyone with *public_view *authority for the group can access the weather station data.

**Step 3: Define the unit area **

Choose how you will define the area of the irrigation unit. The options are:

- Choose **Area** and enter the total area.
- Choose **Draw the boundary on the map** and switch to the map to draw the irrigation unit.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Irrigation units will not be shown on the map unless you have defined their boundaries, but you can still use them for ordering and for demand prediction.

**(Optional): Draw the unit boundaries**

If you have chosen to define the map boundaries, you can draw the unit directly on the map.

- Tap the map at any point where you want to place a corner.
- To finish drawing a unit, tap again on the starting point to close the shape. The starting point is marked in green and will turn blue when the shape is closed.
- Edit the shape by dragging the points into position if necessary.
- Switch back to the **List** tab to return to the Irrigation Unit Create wizard.
- Click **Save** to continue to the next step

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You can move the boundaries at any time by modifying the irrigation unit, but you can’t change the way in which the unit is defined.

**Step 4: Define properties for the area**

Optionally add the following irrigation unit properties:

- **Soil Type** - select from the drop-down list
- **Slope** - Expressed as the *(Vertical Rise/Horizontal Run) x 100*
- **Position Percentage** - Expressed as the distance of the SmartFront meter from the start of the cropping area as a percentage of the full length of the cropping area.

**Step 5: Add Plantings for the area**

You can now optionally add plantings for the area or you can add plantings at a later stage. See the next section for details of how to define [plantings](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/NC/pages/2503443338).

**Step 6: Review and save your irrigation unit **

Check your irrigation unit settings and make any changes necessary. Then click **Save** to save the unit.

# Modify or Delete an Irrigation Unit

- Choose **Modify** from the Irrigation Unit menu to modify an irrigation unit. The irrigation unit stepper will open and you can make whatever changes you need.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You can’t change the area of an irrigation unit if there are any orders associated with the irrigation unit.

- Choose **Delete **from the Irrigation Unit menu to delete an irrigation unit.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You can’t delete an irrigation unit that has plantings. You must delete the plantings first if possible and then delete the irrigation unit. If the plantings have been used for orders, you cannot delete the plantings or the irrigation unit.
