PARENT-METERED relations between regulators and outlets are used for the following planning purposes:

- **Organising the Unscheduled Orders list** - you can group the unscheduled orders list based on their shared upstream regulator.
- **Auto-scheduling** - during auto-scheduling outlets are grouped together based on their shared parent regulator.
- **Metering** - When an order is operating at a metered outlet, the current flow rate at the outlet is displayed on the CustomerConnect Home page. If an outlet is unmetered you can configure CustomerConnect to display the flow at the upstream regulator instead by setting up a PARENT-METERED relation with the upstream regulator.

**Step 1**

In the [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SMNC/pages/2000979029](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SMNC/pages/2000979029) find one of the objects that you want to connect - the regulator or the outlet.

**Step 2**

In the Relations tab, click **Insert** to open the Inserting Relations screen.

**Step 3**

Fill in the following details:

| **Property** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Super/Sub Object | - If you have selected the Regulator, choose Super Object
- If you have selected the  Outlet, choose Sub Object |
| Relation Type | Pick the PARENT METERED relation type from the drop-down field. |
| Super/Sub Object | Select the other object in the relationship - either the regulator or the outlet. |
| Sequence No | You don’t need to enter a value here (it just optionally controls where the relation appears in lists). |

**Step 4**

Click **Save** to save your changes.
