If you are scheduling manually you must first create segments (or “Heads”), then drag the orders from the Unscheduled Orders list and drop them in the appropriate segment.

# Create a New Segment

To create a new segment click the ➕ **Add Segment** button at the right of the Plan Details page.

Enter a Name for the segment and a maximum Flow Rate. You can also decide whether the first order added to the segment will use the requested order start time or the plan start time.

The segment will be added as a panel at the top or left side of the Plan Details page.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Use the :SettingsIcon: **Settings **tool on the Plan Details page to choose a location for the segments.

You can now drag-and-drop orders from the Unscheduled Orders list into the segment.

# Add an Order to a Segment

Drag and drop orders from the unscheduled orders list to add them to a segment. You can filter or group the unscheduled orders list first to narrow down the orders that you want to add.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Typically you will keep orders with the same upstream regulator in the same segment. You’ll be warned if you don’t do this (but you can still proceed).

- If you drag an order onto an unexpanded segment the order will be added to the bottom of the segment and linked to the last order in the segment (if there is one).
- If you expand the segment (by clicking the arrow to the left of the segment label) you can choose where to drop the order. You can drop the order:
  - Onto the end of an existing order chain to link it to that chain.
  - Onto an unlinked order to create a new chain.
  - Onto the *Unlinked *section at the bottom of the segment which will just add the order as unlinked. The order start time will be the requested date/time (unless this is the first order in the segment).

You can see the first three orders in a segment on the Plan Details screen or you can view the [Segment Details](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/NC/pages/3033333874) to see all the orders in the segment.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You can add orders to a segment that extend past the end of the plan date range or that start after the end of the plan date range. Any segments with incomplete or pending orders will automatically be added to the next plan.
